Dance Through a Week To Beauty!

This is an undated, in rough shape, little treasure from "SECRETS OF CHARM" entitled Dance Through a Week To Beauty! It's a 6-day (because the Lord doesn't want you to exercise on Sunday) dance routine pamphlet to help you dance your way to beauty.

The pamphlet states  "This time you won't have to do any exercises for the good of your good looks. Instead you'll learn to dance to beauty! When you've mastered every step, you'll be able to do the most lovely and graceful solo you'eve ever dreamed of. You'll feel limber, poised and beautiful. You may even lose a pound or two."

You can start dancing your way to beauty after the jump.

Motel Monday: Get Your Kicks

Every Monday for the few months I have been sharing with you themed motel postcards from my collection featured on my other blog, In The Heart of Downtown.  Today's Motel Monday theme is Route 66. Highway 66 is possibly the most famous Highway in the history of the United States. The Highway linked Chicago and Los Angeles and was over 2,300 miles long. The route was completed in 1933 and quite possibly was most popular in the 1950s and 60s. It would take me hours to type all of the wonderful history, so instead I will link you to some more informative sites.

These represent one dozen of the many hundreds of motels that lined Highway 66.  I tried to find some of the better postcards to give you a better sense of some of the more colorful motel sights along the "Mother Road." They aren't in geographical order. See them all after the jump.

Sorry for the 5-day delay in posts. The Thanksgiving holiday and subsequent food poisoning put me out of commission for a while. Now, to make it up to you, here's a blond on a diving board from the 1950s:

Motel Monday: The World's Innkeeper

I figured since last Monday's theme was Holiday Motels, I would post a dozen postcards of the motel chain all those little ones aspired to be: Holiday Inn. Since Holiday Inn was/is a massive chain, it was difficult to make your postcard stand out. Some went with a postcard of the great sign, some with went the standard boiler plate card. These twelve cards went out of their way to be different...

The Exciting World of Dinosaurs

As you can probably tell by the prior post, Sinclair Dinoland was an exhibit at the 1964-65 New York World's Fair. Sinclair had used a brontosaurus as their mascot for years so it made perfect sense for them to have an exhibit featuring "LIFE-SIZE" dinosaurs.
This particular item is a 16 page brochure with background on Sinclair and the dinosaurs that roamed the World's Fair exhibit. You will learn all about dinosaurs and why Sinclair quality oil is the best.

I Want To Be a Space Pilot

Here we have a long out-of-print book from 1961 entitled I Want to Be a Space Pilot. The book was written by Carla Greene (pictures by Donna Cieslak) and was part of a series of books with the I Want To Be title. I am going to post the whole thing in its entirety. I love this children's book and really do believe it to be out-of-print. It's a little beat up and the binding is shot, but still worth checking out after the jump.

Pac-Man Instruction Booklet for the Atari 2600

These are instructions for game play for the Pac-Man video game for the Atari 2600. As you look at the instructions, compare it to the actual game play screen at the end, it's not quite the same.

Pac-Man Fever

This morning I woke up with this strange song in my head:

It's not that strange of a song, I guess. The strange part is that I had not heard the song in years. I don't know why it was in my head at all. Instead of trying to decipher a deeper meaning, I determined that it meant that today was Pac-Man day on What Makes The Pie Shops Tick?. I can be here for 66 weeks posting all of the awesome things that came from the Pac-Man franchise, instead, I will post a few things I really enjoy.

First we have stickers (thanks to tOkKa):
