The Life and Times of Marjorie Casper: Happy Birthday!

Marjorie Casper was born on this date in 1922. I wanted to celebrate her 89th birthday by posting some of the birthday cards in her scrapbook. Most of these cards are from her 21st birthday (1943) when she was working at AiResearch in California.

I am posting these pictures a little out of order, but due to the Valentines rush, I had to post those first and these second. These are loose pictures from the scrapbook of Marjorie Casper. There are some notes in the book as to who these people were, but I really don't know too much more about them. I added a description under each image and, if possible, a little note about the people pictured. I will be referring to Marjorie as Midge throughout this post because that was her nickname and there are multiple Marg-ish names.

There are more pictures in the scrapbook but I have yet to scan them and/or figure out where they belonged in the book. When I figure them out I will post them. In the meantime, here are 14 pictures starting with Midge's family.

The Life and Times of Marjorie Casper: Valentine's Day

As a rule, I try not to post the same thing on this blog as I do on my flickr. But seeing as it is probably the  best day to post some great Valentine ephemera from Marjorie Casper's scrapbook, I felt like this is an OK instance to repeat myself a little bit. I have included notes on the items telling you where the items came from and who these people were (to the best of my knowledge).

This is a Valentine telegram from Dayd (Elmer Seifert) who you will meet tomorrow. Dayd was Marjorie's boyfriend.

This is an earlier (maybe a year or two) Valentine telegram from Jack Nolan. Jack appears to have been an ex-boyfriend or a gentleman admirer. Not really sure.

A card from either Less or Liss. Not sure who that was. There is no more information in the scrapbook on whoever this was.

Kathaleen was a friend of Marjorie.

Genny is Marjorie's much younger sister.

Kathy was a friend of Marge.

Meet Marjorie Casper

Meet Marjorie Casper.

I do not know Marjorie Casper. I never knew her or anyone in her family. Here is what I know of Marjorie:

1. She was born in 1922.
2. She graduated High School in Breckenridge, Minnesota in 1940.
3. She worked at AIResearch during WWII presumably building planes/bombers
4. She had a boyfriend named Dayd.
5. She lived in Minnesota, California, and Oregon.

One day, in the summer of 2006, my wife and I were antique store shopping in the Eastmoreland section of Portland and we stumbled upon a scrapbook.
The scrapbook was made by Marjorie Casper between 1938-1944. Marjorie saved all sorts of ridiculous things.
This scrapbook is falling apart and I am trying to put it back together. I figured, while I was putting it back together I would feature all of the neat things within.
Over the next little while I will be sharing with you some of the great ephemera inside the scrapbook. I may not post stuff every day but I will post things as I see fit! I hope you enjoy this stuff as much as I do!
